Children's Corrective Surgery Society
Discover why CCSS's objectives have contributed to the helping of many!

The objective of CCSS is to provide free plastic surgery to children who are disfigured. Common disfigurements include:

In the fulfillment of these objectives, three principles are always evident:
  1. No child is ever seen as a statistic or a file number. Each patient is given all of the love and personal attention possible, even though the numbers of patients now exceeds 12,000.
  2. There is a healing that needs to occur in an area the doctor cannot reach with his surgical skills. Nearly all of these children come to us with deep emotional scars that need to be treated as well. The children return home with memories of an outpouring of love and compassion from our staff and volunteers. New clothes and toys are often given to those who have so little of this world's possessions. CCSS warehouse in El CAjon CA with medical supplies ready
to be shipped where they are needed.
  3. CCSS is not just a one dimensional society dealing with only birth defects. We are often presented with opportunities to relieve human suffering around the world. We do all we can to respond. Special Burn medications were airlifted to victims of the volcano eruption in Columbia. Food and medicines have been sent to Ukraine, Kenya, South Africa and other famine regions around the world. On a regular basis, medical supplies in 40 foot containers have been shipped to disaster areas in developing countries.
CCSS has also been involved in providing desperately needed medicines and medical supplies for hospitals in the Ukraine and 50,000 doses of Polio vaccine to South America. John Martin, our founder and President of CCSS, has always been cost conscious and doesn't believe in "reinventing the wheel". If another agency is adept at a particular function, he believes that the two should work together to the mutual benefit of everyone involved.

One of the small planes that
carried the CCSS field team to Honduras. Our health care system here in the United States is such that very few people do without. When the system fails there are many private organizations who pick up the slack and should these organizations need our assistance, we are ready to help. We believe that every child deserves a chance to live a normal, healthy life free from ridicule and shame. Our goal is to help as many children as possible to achieve their full potential.

Although our main thrust is helping children, we also extend our services to teenagers and adults who never had (and might never have) any opportunity to correct these terrible congenital disfigurements. Our donors are assured that their donations are used effectively and efficiently so that more patients can be served. They have the confidence that their contributions are reaching the patients that need us.
