News and reports of CCSS's progress - Denyse's Story
The Gift of a Smile . . .
Little Denyse has been one of our poster children for
several years, but there are many others, who have won
our hearts too. You see, we don't think of our patients
as just numbers on a page. Each one of them has a distinct
personality and each one of them is more like our extended
family.
They come to us as strangers. Some frightened, and some so
dejected they hide their faces for fear of ridicule. We don't
see them as having a cleft lip or palet. We see them as
the beautiful children they are behind the disfigurement.
One mother was shocked to hear John say, "What a pretty child
you have!" She looked at her daughter's face and said, "You
think she is beautiful?"
John took his hand and covered over the cleft lip saying, "Do
you see her beauty now?" Her mother started to cry saying, "You
are the first person to ever say such a nice thing about my
daughter. No one has ever seen her the way you see her."
Many of the patients have spent their early childhood being
ostracized by their peers, made fun of and even cursed by adults.
Some were not allowed to attend school or play with their neighbors.
Your donations give them all the gift of a full life. Many of them
are grown up now and are married.
Some have children of their own. They have jobs and a secure,
happy life. All because of people like you who cared enough to
get involved.
This is not just food for one day, but "food for the rest of
their lives." It enables them to go out and do for themselves.
Thank you, from all of us at CCSS and all the children you
have helped over the years.
