Lourdes Rodriguez

My name is Lourdes Rodriguez and I’m 29 years old.  I’m going to tell you about something that happened to me.

I met a young man and I was his girlfriend for 10 months and then we decided to live together.  After we started living together he didn’t wanted me to keep working.  He kept insisting that I should quit my job until I finally did quit.  He wanted us to spend more time together because when we were both working we didn’t have the same days off.  But it was a big mistake to quit my job, he was irresponsible at home.  He then started drinking a lot and we were always fighting.  Because of all these I ended up getting pregnant and thing got worst.  He started coming home late and he never took me to see the doctor.  I was only able to stay with him for the first 3 ½ months of my pregnancy.  It was impossible to keep living with him.  Living with him under these conditions was something so horrible that I don’t wish it to anybody.  He didn’t want to know anything about us anymore.  He never wanted to help me financially.

When my baby was born I let him know that he was born with a physical defect and he only came to see him to find out what the baby looked like.  He didn’t want to register him as his son because of the birth defect and he never came back to see the baby again.

Thank God that my niece’s husband told me about Mrs. Francisca who in turn took me to the “Clinica del Niño”.  At this clinic they accepted my baby and referred him into the CCSS/COAD surgery program.  And this is how my baby has been changing a lot.

I don’t have words to express my thanks for all that you have done for my son.  Without your help my son would still have Cleft Lip and Palate.

To all the mothers that have gone through something like my problem, I ask you to believe in God and that your sons can be helped and their problems corrected.  And don’t stop loving them.  My son is an example that yes, they can be helped and their problems corrected.

Thanks a lot.

Lourdes.
